ODI Filter Drive Upgrade - Aug 11, 2015

Every summer we take time during the monsoon season (when the weather is notoriously poor for observing) to do some needed maintenance on the observatory. One of the projects this summer is to upgrade the ODI filter drive modules.

The video below is the inaugural actuation of an upgraded ODI filter drive, with a dummy filter installed. The new drive unit is based on a more reliable chain drive and replaces the old drive that suffered from excessive abrasion and created brass shavings in the instrument. The upgrade of all three drive units on ODI will be completed during this summer shut down.
