- Initial thoughts for PIs on making attractive requests:
- Short blocks of time are more likely to be chosen than large blocks.
- Rewards like co-authorship are more attractive than acknowledgements or thanks.
- Standard (UBVRI) filters are more widely used and impact calibration plans less than special filters.
- Moonlit conditions are more attractive than dark conditions.
- Interesting and complete descriptions of the science to be accomplished may be more inspiring.
- Friendly, prompt and helpful correspondence with Observers fosters careful observations.
- The Standard Acknowledgement for an Opportunity Queue Observation is,
"The authors thank Anne Observer of ABC University for acquiring this particular
piece of data via the Opportunity Queue at the WIYN 0.9-m Telescope, which is
operated by WIYN Inc. on behalf of a Consortium of nine partner Universities and
Organizations (see http://www.noao.edu/0.9m). WIYN is a joint partnership
of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Indiana University, Yale University, and
the National Optical Astronomical Observatory."
- Access to the OQ will be offered to non-consortium astronomers when HDI comes on-line, as part of the community access agreement for HDI.
